The Art of Self Promotion – How to ‘tell’ your story to attract customers to your tattoo Business

What do you think of self-promotion in your tattoo business?

There are various reasons why a lot of business owners do not want to promote themselves. It almost seems embarrassing and even sickening for them to “sell” themselves. Perhaps, it's because of the idea that they don't feel worthy. While they believe in their skills as an artist, at the back of their minds, there is doubt.

Yes, it is so easy to believe that people don’t want to hear about you raving on about yourself or your skills. And it is often easier to undervalue your talent.

But I tell you, the one thing that successful entrepreneurs have compared to the mediocre ones is their confidence to promote themselves.

So work at your shyness and the mindset of not being worthy. In business you will profit more if you are willing to sell yourself.

Here are some ways you can promote yourself and your business:

1. Stamp your name in your business

You may be thinking, if this doesn't work at all, everybody will remember my name and associate it to a failed tattoo business. Then, I would be like walking with a tattoo on my forehead which says, "LOSER!"

Do not be afraid to use your name in your business so that people will know who they are dealing with. It will be easier for your customers to associate your product with you and say, “You know, I trust him/her; I’m going to do business with him/her.”

2. Include an image of yourself in your marketing

Aside from your logo in your business marketing, it will be a big factor to include your image or a profile picture.  It pays to see who you are dealing with. Use a profile picture that people can easily recognize as you. Include your story and how you got into the tattoo business in as many of your marketing pieces as you can. This way, people will get to know you a little bit and consider what you are offering.

3.Maintain a blog

Blogging is a great tool for marketing. This is the venue where you can give more value and share yourself to your customers.  Start posting on a monthly basis if you like.  If you get the hang of it, you can update and post on a weekly basis. Maintaining a blog is your ongoing communication with people and can be a great way to promote yourself.

People will be able to get to know you and see your designs. And if they are able to identify with your work, then you have earned possible clients.

Self-promotion is in itself an art. It is one of the most important things you can learn and implement as a business owner. It may not feel comfortable in the beginning. However, think of what you can achieve once you start to implement the skills on how to effectively promote yourself.  You can gain new customers by telling them about your products and services.  You only need to be unabashed and do it despite any initial fear of promoting yourself.
